Chef's Larder - Philip Turnball

Philip Turnbull has over thirty years’ experience working in Europe and Africa, having trained initially at the Ritz and Four seasons Hotels in London UK. As Executive Chef at the Cardoso Philip oversees the day to day work of a large team of professionals, managing the hotel’s buffet, a la carte restaurants and coffee shop as well as the 200 pax banqueting function, a 500 pax pool area used extensively for weddings, cocktail parties and gala dinners and the provision of outside catering facilities. Philip’s menus are inspired by his passion for culinary excellence and demonstrate his unique ability to excite and delight the palates of all his diners.

Our Community

Hotel Cardoso is active in the community in which it operates. As responsible corporate citizens the hotel pursues a number of initiatives aimed at benefitting different sectors of our society.

As part of our social responsibility we are working closely with Imagine Mozambique, a registered non profit making organisation based in the community of Katembe, close to Maputo. As well as giving donations of furniture, bed linen and towels the hotel provides monthly financial sponsorship for the vulnerable family and child food programme.

Hotel Cardoso also recently undertook the refurbishment, rehabilitation and management of a nearby municipal park for the benefit of Maputo’s residents allowing them to enjoy a safe and pleasant outdoor recreational area.

The hotel operates an “in house” clinic and employs a full time Nurse for the use of staff members and immediate family.

Maputo is situated on the shore of the Indian Ocean and is a melting pot of peoples and cultures.

Founded as a port town by the Portuguese, Maputo has been influenced by travellers and traders from Africa, Asia and Europe. It is known for its lively nightlife and exotic cuisine – with the delicious peri-peri prawns being a must for any traveller! Visitors to the city can enjoy the bustling local market, the famous old fort and the many architectural and historical landmarks.
